Chinese President Xi Jinping says the Communist Party of China, despite many hurdles it has had to overcome since its founding prior, has been able to usher in a historic, great change and become the Chinese people’s reliable backbone, turning the world upside down. Addressing the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in Beijing on Wednesday 1 July, Xi stated that the CPC has traversed, looking ahead to the bright prospects for the development of the people’s cause to advance courageously with full confidence towards the grand goal of fully building a “great modern socialist country and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”.
Xi highlighted the great strides that the CPC has made in developing and modernising China, rejuvenating its people, and sharing its development path towards full modernisation, with the rest of the world.

“One hundred and five years of unremitting struggle have profoundly influenced the course of world history. Our Party has always stood on the correct side of history and on the side of the progress of human civilization, and has profoundly changed the trends and patterns of world development through its unremitting self-strengthening struggle. Today, the Party leads the people in advancing Chinese modernization, creating a new form of human civilization, and expanding the paths for developing countries to move toward modernization,” Xi said.
The new journey of “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” must go hand in hand with implementing the One-China Principle. However, the leader adopted a conciliatory tone as he raised the issue of reunification in his address.
“Resolving the Taiwan question and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland is the historical task to which our Party is unswervingly committed and the common wish of all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation. We must deeply implement the Party’s overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, unite the broad ranks of Taiwan compatriots,” he said.

While firm against the pro-independence movement in Taiwan, Xi extended a hand of friendship towards Taiwan. He called for the deepening of cross-Strait exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development. But he asked for a resolute strike against Taiwan independence separatist forces, opposed interference by external forces, and firmly advanced the great cause of the reunification of the motherland.
On the new journey, Xi said China must fully, accurately, and unswervingly implement the principles of One Country, Two Systems with a high degree of autonomy for Hong Kong, Macao. This contrasts with Western views that Beijing wants to usurp the powers of these territories and impose its will on them or even invade Taiwan.
For these territories, not only has the President promised a high degree of autonomy, but the implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong and Macao, improve the effectiveness of law-based governance in both, promote their economic and social development while ensuring these territories are better integrated into China’s overall development.

Touching on the CPC history, the President said the party came into being in response to the call of the times. From then on, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation had the most reliable backbone. This happened despite being beset by internal troubles and external aggression, and impoverished and weak, China opened a historic great change that turned the world upside down.
Over the past 105 years, the Party has always adhered to its original aspiration and mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and seeking rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. Having accurately grasped the changes in the principal social contradictions in different historical periods, it has united and led the people of all ethnic groups across the country in unremitting struggle, creating the great achievements of the new-democratic revolution, the socialist revolution and construction, reform and opening up, and socialist modernization, and socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
He said in the process, it wrote “the most magnificent epic in the several-thousand-year history of the Chinese nation.”
Xi said today, the Chinese people have firmly grasped their destiny in their own hands and are striding toward an even better future with an attitude of confidence, self-reliance, and self-strengthening.

Today, the flourishing vitality and vigorous energy of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics have fully tested the scientific nature and truth of Marxism, fully displayed the people-centered nature and practical nature of Marxism, and fully manifested the openness and contemporary character of Marxism.
“Today, the Party leads the people in advancing Chinese modernization, creating a new form of human civilisation, and expanding the paths for developing countries to move toward modernization. We promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, contributing Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions, and Chinese strength to solving major problems facing humanity. He paid tribute to the generations of Chinese communist leaders who lead the Chinese people in “unremitting struggle”. The Chinese Communists were mainly influenced by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao, that Xi said they established great historical merits for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. “We express our lofty respect to them,” he said.
He paid special tribute to many leaders and revolution veterans, starting from Mao to the last, cherished their memories for their sacrifices and dedication to national independence, people’s liberation, national prosperity, and the people’s happiness. “Their great achievements for the country and the nation will be recorded forever in history. Their noble spirit will be forever remembered in the hearts of hundreds of millions of people,” Xi said
